The New Scirnce Made You An Universal Blood Donar

Researchers, including one of Indian-origin, have created an
enzyme that could transform all donated blood into a
universal type that can be given to any patient.

University of British Columbia chemists and scientists in the
Centre for Blood Research have created an enzyme that
could potentially solve this problem.

The enzyme works by snipping off the sugars, also known
as antigens, found in Type A and Type B blood, making it
more like Type O. Type O blood is known as the universal
donor and can be given to patients of all blood types.
"We produced a mutant enzyme that is very efficient at
cutting off the sugars in A and B blood, and is much more
proficient at removing the subtypes of the A-antigen that
the parent enzyme struggles with," said David Kwan, the
lead author of the study and a postdoctoral fellow in the
Department of Chemistry.

To create this high-powered enzyme capable of snipping off
sugars, researchers used a new technology called directed
evolution that involves inserting mutations into the gene
that codes for the enzyme, and selecting mutants that are
more effective at cutting the antigens.

In just five generations, the enzyme became 170 times more
effective.

With this enzyme, UBC associate professor Jayachandran
Kizhakkedathu and colleagues were able to remove the wide
majority of the antigens in Type A and B blood.

But before it can be used in clinical settings, the enzyme
used would need to remove all of the antigens.
The immune system is highly sensitive to blood groups and
even small amounts of residual antigens could trigger an
immune response.

Now we are the UNIVERSAL
Come ahed let's save the lives
Give The Gift Of Life

Thankyou,

Now Get Passport In Just 10 Days!

Here's good news for owners of Aadhaar
card. If you have it, you can now get your passport in
10 days, skipping the time-consuming police
verification process, which will be done later.

To expedite the passport issuing system, the ministry
of external affairs (MEA) has now decided to rely on
Aadhaar card for identification of the applicant and on
the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) database
for validation of his/her criminal antecedents, said a
ministry official.

With the applicant's self-declaration on aspects like
citizenship, criminal antecedents, criminal proceedings,
summons/warrants sufficing, the government will start
issuing fresh passports on condition that the applicant
will get the police verification done later. This is done
in case of Tatkaal seva, too.

The simplified police verification system seeks to
resolve issues raised from time to time regarding prior
police verification and consequent delay in issuance of
passports. In the new format, the applicant would
apply online; he or she needs only to attach the
Aadhaar card as the sole address and identity proof.
The applicant will get the appointment within three
days and in another seven days, the passport will be
processed and dispatched.

According to the new modalities devised by MEA, the
home and law ministries and the Intelligence Bureau,
the government, on the directions of Prime Minister
Narendra Modi, has made Aadhaar card a mandatory
requirement for issuance of passports. The MEA has
coordinated with UIDAI to implement this. In case the
applicant does not have an Aadhaar card, his/her
Aadhaar enrolment number would suffice since the
identity of a person who has enrolled has also been
verified to a great extent.

Regarding the verification of criminal antecedents,
NCRB has put a system in place which will help it
validate the applicant's records based on its database.
Under the current scheme of things, passports are
issued within a week of receipt of police verification
reports.

The applicant may now be given the address of the
police station responsible for verification at the time of
issue of passport. This will help him/her actively
pursue and complete the process of verification before
travelling abroad. Any wrong declaration by the
applicant would entail impounding or revocation of
passport, said an MEA official.

1. Toward Freedom,(1936)
is an autobiographical book written by the first
Prime Minister of India , Jawaharlal Nehru while he
was in prison. It ran nine editions in the first year
alone. He wrote the book to explore how and why he
had ended up taking the path of civil disobedience
that in turn led to his imprisonment.

Nehru starts his history with how his ancestors had to
flee Kashmir , and then goes on to tell about his own
life, with a particular emphasis on the parts of his life
that had brought him to this point in time.

2. Wings of Fire (1999)
Is an autobiography of A P J Abdul Kalam ,
former President of India . It was written by Dr. Kalam
and Arun Tiwari. Kalam examines his early life,
effort, hardship, fortitude, luck and chance that
eventually led him to lead Indian space research,
nuclear and missile programs. Kalam started his
career, after graduating from Aerospace engineering at
MIT (Chennai), India , at Hindustan Aeronautics
Limited and was assigned to build a hovercraft
prototype. Later he moved to ISRO and helped
establish the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre and
pioneered the first space launch-vehicle program.
During the 1990s and early 2000, Kalam moved to the
DRDO to lead the Indian nuclear weapons program,
with particular successes in thermonuclear weapons
development culminating in the operation Smiling
Buddha and an ICBM Agni (missile) .

3. The Story of My Experiments with Truth
Is the autobiography of Mohandas K. Gandhi, covering his
life from early childhood through to 1921. It was
written in weekly instalments and published in his
journal Navjivan from 1925 to 1929. Its English
translation also appeared in installments in his other
journal Young India . It was initiated at the
insistence of Swami Anand and other close co-
workers of Gandhi, who encouraged him to explain the
background of his public campaigns. In 1999, the book
was designated as one of the "100 Best Spiritual
Books of the 20th Century" by a committee of global
spiritual and religious authorities.

4. Raja Yoga , Karma Yoga , Bhakti Yoga
Is the literary works of Swami Vivekananda
He was born into an aristocratic Bengali family of Calcutta,
Vivekananda was inclined towards spirituality. He was
influenced by his guru, Ramakrishna, from whom he
learnt that all living beings were an embodiment of
the divine self; therefore, service to God could be
rendered by service to mankind. After Ramakrishna's
death, Vivekananda toured the Indian subcontinent
extensively and acquired first-hand knowledge of the
conditions prevailing in British India . He later travelled
to the United States, representing India at the 1893
Parliament of the World Religions. Vivekananda
conducted hundreds of public and private lectures and
classes, disseminating tenets of Hindu philosophy in
the United States, England and Europe. In India,
Vivekananda is regarded as a patriotic saint and his
birthday is celebrated there as National Youth Day .

5.Life Of Therisa
Teresa of Calcutta, M.C. ] commonly known
as Mother Teresa (26 August 1910 – 5 September
1997), was a Roman Catholic religious sister and
missionary who lived most of her life in India. She
was born in today's Macedonia, with her family being
of Albanian descent originating in Kosovo.

Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity , a
Roman Catholic religious congregation , which in 2012
consisted of over 4,500 sisters and is active in 133
countries. They run hospices and homes for people
with HIV / AIDS , leprosy and tuberculosis; soup
kitchens; dispensaries and mobile clinics; children's
and family counselling programmes; orphanages; and
schools. Members must adhere to the vows of
chastity, poverty and obedience as well as a fourth
vow, to give "wholehearted free service to the poorest
of the poor".

6.Life Of Akbar
Abu'l-Fath Jalal ud-din Muhammad Akbar , known
popularly as Akbar (IPA: [əkbər] , literally "the great";
14 October 1542 – 27 October 1605), also known as
Akbar the Great or Akbar I ,was Mughal Emperor
from 1556 until his death. He was the third and one of
the greatest rulers of the Mughal Dynasty in India.
Akbar succeeded his father, Humayun , under a regent,
Bairam Khan , who helped the young emperor expand
and consolidate Mughal domains in India. A strong
personality and a successful general, Akbar gradually
enlarged the Mughal Empire to include nearly all of
the Indian Subcontinent north of the Godavari river.
His power and influence, however, extended over the
entire country because of Mughal military, political,
cultural, and economic dominance. To unify the vast
Mughal state, Akbar established a centralised system
of administration throughout his empire and adopted a
policy of conciliating conquered rulers through
marriage and diplomacy. In order to preserve peace
and order in a religiously and culturally diverse
empire, he adopted policies that won him the support
of his non-Muslim subjects. Eschewing tribal bonds
and Islamic state identity, Akbar strived to unite far-
flung lands of his realm through loyalty, expressed
through a Persianised culture, to himself as an
emperor who had near-divine status.

The Car Giant Lamborghini to enter into the smart phone network , With a Massive 3,400 mAh Battery

Lamborghini will reportedly be launching a new
luxury smartphone in January, called the 88 Tauri -
named after the constellation. For now, pricing
information has not been reported, but the smartphone
is claimed to be set for an India launch via Luxury Quotient.

The Tonino Lamborghini 88 Tauri is being reported by
GQIndia to run Android 4.4.4 KitKat and sport a 5-
inch full-HD display with an oleophobic coating and
10-point multi-touch. Unlike most luxury phones, the
88 Tauri seems to be rather well-endowed, and is said
to be powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon
801 SoC, coupled with 3GB of RAM.

Other reported specifications include a 3400mAh
battery rated to deliver 1,000 hours of standby time, a
20-megapixel rear camera, and an 8-megapixel front-
facing camera. Strangely enough for a luxury
smartphone, the 88 Tauri is claimed to feature dual-
SIM dual active support, apart from LTE connectivity.

The Tonino Lamborghini 88 Tauri will reportedly be
available in limited quantities.

Quite a few major manufacturers have tried their hands
at luxury smartphones, and one of the most recent
examples is a collaboration between BlackBerry and
Porsche Design - resulting in the Porsche Design
P'9983 . It starts at EUR 1,650 (roughly Rs. 1,27,000).

The Porsche Design P'9983 is the third smartphone
launched in collaboration between BlackBerry and
Porsche Design, the first two being BlackBerry Porsche
P9981 and Porsche Design P'9982 .

Notably, the handset features a premium quality build
such as camera lens made out of sapphire glass;
Porsche Design floating logo and chassis sporting
forged stainless steel, and also comes with special
glass-weave technology for the back.

For specifications, the Porsche Design P'9983 comes

The Famous Grass Mats of Pattamadai

Pattamadai is a panchayat town in
Tirunelveli district(surrounded by Kozhumadai/
Melacheval in the East, Paymadai/ Cheranmahadevi in
the West, Pulavan Kudiyeruppu/Kanganankulam in the
South and karisulnthamangalam in the North east) in
the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

World Famous Mats of Pathamadai

About The Mats (Pai) :

The majority of mats made in here have cotton warps and korai wefts. Korai belongs to the sedge family of plants, Cyperaceae. Korai mats may be broadly divided into three categories.
Coarse mats are rough in texture, relatively quick to weave and may be made using either a handloom or powerloom. Higher quality handloom mats are finer in texture. The highest
quality have a texture akin to silk. To make such mats the korai is soaked in running water for up to a week until it begins to rot, the central pith is then scraped off and each stem split into fine strands, dried and dyed. The finer the mat desired, the longer the korai needs to soak and the thinner the weft strands will be. The number of warp threads also increases with finer mats.

Apart from the regular weaves and patterns, Pattamadai paais are made to order for wedding ceremonies. The bride and the groom's names and the wedding date are woven in to the mat make the occasion memorable.

The Weaving ...

The process of mat weaving is time consuming and
painstaking. The art and craft of weaving and blending
intricate designs of Pattamadai mats are considered
unique to this region. "Korai' grass grows in swampy
lands and riverbeds. Online research mentions a specific
set of Labbai/Lubbai and Rauther Muslim families are
involved in weaving these mats or making the loom.
According a research submitted at a seminar in New
Delhi -by Ms Soumhya Venkatesan in 2003, this
household cottage industry contributes to over 75% of
the local income in Pattamadai.

Patterns and colours

Traditional colours include rich "Indian" colours : black ,
brown and red as these are the colours derived from
sappan tree. Dyed grass strands are woven into bold
stripe patterns with a thick set of streaks on both ends
to make conventional looking mats. Beautiful traditional
motifs and designs bring out the luxurious look of these
mats. I prefer the natural scent of these mats to the
stinky plastic odor any day!

Over the years, traditional designs are giving way to
contemporary patterns, designs and custom
motifs.Traditional colours have been replaced by use of
synthetic dyes which provide a wider colour choice ( I
am in favour of natural dyes) .These paais are ideal for
hot and humid climates and most importantly are eco-
friendly (with natural dyes), a major selling point for
people like me. Buyers may choose their own set of
details to be spun into the paai to suit any occasion or
ceremony.

There has been an increase in demand for other korai
grass products such as shopping bags, placemats, table
runners, small office folders etc. How about a few
decorative pillows?...

Industry Overview...

The mat industry has gone through a cycle of transition
from being most coveted to the most ignored and then
back in demand. Efforts by a few organizations to
promote this handicraft led to an influx of commercial
interests. This cycle doesn't benefit any craft/art form,
and the same applies to the Pattamadai mats industry
as well.

Commercial weaving led to increased use of pure cotton
and nylon threads instead of silk thread. Over the years,
excessive exploitation and stress for over production
resulted to waning in use of traditional methods. As I
have always maintained, over production and apparent,
in flow of money in the short term doesn't translate to
"growth".

Increased domestic and international Demand and
supply imbalance eventually led to increased use of
synthetic dyes, shorter product life cycles, and lesser
focus on long term benefits for the weaver and the
industry as a whole. I remember members of my family
discussing a drastic fall in quality of mats produced.
With plastic mats making a foray into the market, silk
mat industry lost its foot hold and its patrons among
Indian buyers. My research led me to this video(in
tamil) highlighting the current state of affairs in the
Pattamadai pattu paai industry in general.

Issues with synthetic dyes...

It is common knowledge that natural dyes and product
are more eco-friendly and do not impact a weaver's
health and the community/environment they live in.
Human tendency, in general, is to put long term gains
on the back burner for minimal short term benefit. What
pains me is emphasis on shot term benefit despite its
negative long term impacts on all the Earthlings. Sappan
plants were originally used as colouring agents and
grown for their natural red dye. Botanical name for this
tree being, Caesalpinia sappan.

Market dictat and the extinction of this species of trees
led to increased use of synthetic dyes. Sappan has been
categorized under endangered species category by World
Conservation Monitoring Center (1998). Caesalpinia
sappan. 2006. IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
IUCN 2006. Another article in The Hindu mentioned a
research program dedicated to reviving this tree species
and the effort a few organizations were putting in to
promote traditional practices.

One thing disheartening about any industry in India is
their tendency to concentrate on the export market.
Agreed that international market contributes to a major
chunk of their revenue, but spending potential of the
Indian middle class needs to be given its due credit.

Overview

The famous mats are crafted out of korai grass (marsh Reed (plant) ). These mats are also called as Indian Chattai. They are flexible and soft. Mats of this type have been given to Soviet leaders like Nikolai Bulganin and Nikita Khrushchev .

Many weavers have received national awards from the President of India for their unparalleled skill in mat weaving. Pathamadai Pattu Paai has been sent to Queen Victoria & Queen Elizabeth during the British Regime as the Royal Gift from India to highlight the quality and workmen ship of world fame mats. The success of this mat weaving is the closely guarded trade secret among the Muslim Community of Pathamadai from ages.

The traditional colours used are red, green and black
and the weaves can reach up to the maximum 140
counts in the silk or pattu mat. The old pattern
consisted mainly of stripes at the two ends or streaks
through the body (Resemble the Jamakkaalam).
Designs inputs by modern designers has led to the
making of contemporary mats which are greatly in
demand both in the international and national
markets.
Today, apart from the sophisticated Pattamdai pai,
Pathamadai weavers also craft korai grass shopping
bags, place mats, runners, office folders etc.

The Gyanvapi mosque is located in Varanasi , Uttar
Pradesh, India. It was constructed by the Mughal
Emperor Aurangzeb after he demolished the original
Kashi Vishwanath temple at the site. It is located north
of Dashaswamedh Ghat, near Lalita Ghat along the
river Ganges.

It is a Jama Masjid located in the heart of the
Varanasi city. It is administered by Anjuman
Inthazamiya Masajid (AIM)

History

The mosque was built by Emperor Aurangzeb in 1664
CE, after destroying the Kashi Vishwanath temple
located on the site. The mosque is named after
Gyanvapi ("the well of knowledge"), which is situated
between the temple and the mosque. The well is
believed by Hindus to be the location where the sacred
Shiva linga icon of the temple was hidden, before the
temple was razed by Aurangzeb.

The temple had been destroyed and rebuilt a number
of times earlier. The temple structure that existed
prior to the construction of the mosque was most
probably built by Raja Man Singh during Akbar 's reign.

Aurangzeb's demolition of the temple was motivated
by the escape of the Maratha king Shivaji, and the
rebellion of local zamindars (landowners). Jai Singh I ,
the grandson of Raja Man Singh, is said to have
facilitated Shivaji's escape from Agra . Some of the
zamindars may have helped Shivaji avoid the Mughal
authorities. In addition, there were reports of Brahmins
interfering with the Islamic teaching. The temple's
demolition was intended as a warning to the anti-
Mughal factions and Hindu religious leaders in the city.

Demolition concerns

The Maratha ruler Malhar Rao Holkar (1693-1766)
wanted to demolish the mosque and reconstruct

Vishweshwar temple at the site. However, he never
actually did that. Later, in 1780, his daughter-in-law
Ahilyabai Holkar constructed the present Kashi
Vishwanath Temple adjancent to the mosque.

In the 1990s, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP)
campaigned to reclaim the sites of the mosques
constructed after demolition of Hindu temples. After
the demolition of the Babri mosque in December 1992,
about a thousand policemen were deployed to prevent
a similar incident at the Gyanvapi mosque site. The
Bharatiya Janata Party leaders, who supported the
demand for reclaiming Babri mosque, opposed VHP's
similar demand for Gyanvapi, on the grounds that it
was an actively used mosque. The mosque receives
protection under the Places of Worship (Special
Provisions) Act, 1991.

Architecture

The façade is modeled partially on the Taj Mahal's
entrance.The mosque features 71m high minarets .
One of the minarets collapsed during the 1948 floods
in the city. The remains of the erstwhile temple can be
seen in the foundation, the columns and at the rear
part of the mosque.
